Southern Arizona is filled with relics of its past - long abandoned ghost towns, left over from the mining heyday of the late 19th century, dot the landscape. Some, like Tombstone, remain vibrant and alive, though much smaller than at their peak. Others have only foundations to show they were ever there at all. The first five photos on this page were taken while exploring the "Ghost Town Trail," a circuitous route over the Patagonia and Huachuca mountain ranges in the south-central part of the state. Expansive grasslands separate the two mountain ranges. |
